Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Ashongman estate, Accra.
Why did you become an artist?
I loved drawing when i was a kid. I loved to draw comix and watch and play video games like morta combat etc. Through that, I
I realized my passion for art. gift and since then, I have been with it.
How would you describe your own style?
My style of practice relates to the pop-surrealism ment. I do portraiture and create satiric images of my unique cartoon character called BOOGGMUGG.
What expectations were placed on you when you were a child?
There wasn’t any serious expectations though but, i think my parent knew my interests at an early age. So it was obvious i definitely become an artist.
What profession could you be in if you were not an artist?
I would have become a rapper aside being a visual artist because, I believe all rappers are poets. I love the messages they carry, the beats and the lifestyle it brings with. For me, that is freedom.
Who is your favourite artist of all time and what is your favourite artwork of all time?
Kaws is my favourite artist of all time and my favourite work of all time is his painting spongeBob.
Which person outside art do you admire? And for what?
I admire the rapper Kendrick Lamar for his ability to make his listeners empathize.When listening to Lamar, it feels as if you can literally feel his emotional rage in your bones through his tone and vocal inflections.
What advice would you give to your younger self? (16-18 years old)
My advice to my younger self is to be very discipline and be yourself.
What do you like about the culture you grew up in?
I grew up loving pop culture becuase it boosts my creativity and helps me to appreciate nature.
With which 3 people (dead or alive) would you like to spend a creative weekend?
First of all, I would like to spend with Ama Ata Aidoo the writer of No Sweetness Here. Secondly i would like to spend time with reggae musician Bob Marley. I would also like to spend time with rapper 2pac.
If you had to live in a different African city, not in the country where you were born or raised, which city would you pick and why?
Egypt
What message would you want artists to hear right now?
I want my fellow artists to stay true to themselves and live life with no regrets.
