Where did you grow up?

Khayelitsha township in the outskates of Cape Town.

Why did you become an artist?

It was the only discipline that accepted my confused self as to how the world works

How would you describe your own style?

I am a tenor, an operatic tenor.

What expectations were placed on you when you were a child?

To grow up and be the protector of my family, the helper of my community and to build my mother a beautiful house

What profession could you be in if you were not an artist?

maybe a lawyer but all of other professions are birthed by art, i can’t imagine life without art.

Who is your favourite artist of all time and what is your favourite artwork of all time?

Luciano Pavarotti, Salvador Dali, Picasso and DaVinci…sorry Van Gogh

Which person outside art do you admire? And for what?

Charles Bukowski, he is the true mouthpiece for vocalizing the issues of society with solutions

What advice would you give to your younger self? (16-18 years old)

to say thank you more than please, and to keep your head up high

What do you like about the culture you grew up in?

Its a little bit rigid but it keeps the apple and potatoes from making a fruit salad.

If you had to live in a different African city, not in the country where you were born or raised, which city would you pick and why?

Germany, the history is just so deep from Richard Wagner to eating Flammkuchen and of cause beeer 🙂

What message would you want artists to hear right now?

Your art doesn’t have to be perfect. Imperfections are what make it human, what make it relatable. Embrace the flaws, the quirks, and the unexpected detours along the way and put your best foot forward.
